Witness
I’m sure you’ve heard or are familiar with the parable of the wise builder. He was the one who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, streams rose, and winds beat against the house, but the walls of the house stood firm. Sadly, the other builder, a foolish man, built his house on sand. Not too smart! His house didn’t fare as well. Of course, Jesus wasn’t really trying to give the people of his day or us tips on building construction. In fact, he was talking about the foundation that we build our lives upon.Having Christ at the center means loving God and loving others. These are the greatest commandments. If we take the teachings of Christ further, we understand that the Lord calls us first to prayer, then to meditation of scripture. Once we are overflowing with God’s love and filled with His Spirit, we are called to go out and preach the gospel to all people. Christ calls us witnesses. I believe that marriage is one of the most powerful ways to witness of God’s goodness. I admire couples who start their marriages with Jesus at the foundation. A couple that stands out in my mind is a couple I met on a missions trip to Turkey. They grew up in an atmosphere where faith in Christ was punishable by imprisonment. Though they came to faith in Christ after their marriage, they felt called to renew their vows. Because they feared for their safety, they flew to Turkey and renewed their vows with Christ as the center. I had the opportunity to go to the wedding and marvel at both their bold witness and love for each other. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." - Acts 1:8
