Feel the Love of Jesus This Christmas: Heartwarming Ways to Embrace His Joy
I want to take a moment and talk to you from my heart because this season is so special—it’s Christmas!
Obviously, Christmas can feel different for everyone. Not all of us have the picture-perfect holiday we hoped for. But no matter where you are or how you’re feeling, I want to remind you of something beautiful:
Jesus came for you.
I know He wasn’t actually born on December 25, but Christmas is the day we set aside to remember His birth and everything that came with it. How amazing that we get to celebrate the birthday of God’s Son, who was born because God the Father loved us so much. Jesus came to heal our heart, bring peace to our struggles, and show us the way to the Father.
Jesus is the reason for everything good about Christmas. He’s the reason you can have hope no matter what’s going on in your life.
For me, Christmas is a time to celebrate with my family. This year feels extra special because I get to be with more family than usual. But not everyone has the blessing of family. Maybe this Christmas you’re feeling lonely, or maybe you’re praying for something that hasn’t happened yet. If that’s you, I want to say you are not alone. I know this because Jesus is Emmanuel—He is with us. His love doesn’t leave us, and His Spirit is always close, even when things are hard.
Jesus came into the world to bring peace to aching hearts, and I believe He wants to do that for you this Christmas. Whatever you’re facing, whatever you’re feeling, He is with you in it. And He is waiting to bring you comfort, hope, and love.
He Considers You a Friend
This passage has been on my heart this season:
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. (John 15:9–16 NIV)
Isn’t that incredible? Jesus calls you His friend. The King of the universe, the Savior of the world, wants to be your friend. He isn’t like an acquaintance who is too busy to hang out with you, but He wants to be a close, real, always-there-for-you Friend.
When you’re going through a tough time, it can feel like nobody truly understands. But Jesus? He understands. He has endured pain, loneliness, and hardship. He’s been rejected, betrayed, and hurt. But He stayed faithful and showed love that never gives up.
That’s the kind of Friend He wants to be to you. No one loves you like Jesus does.
He Sees You
Christmas can be a time when people feel like they’re missing something. Maybe you’re longing for family or hoping for your life to change. I want to remind you that Jesus sees you in your longing, and He promises to be with you through it all.
No matter where you are today—physically, emotionally, spiritually—you have the love of Jesus to lean on. His presence is real, His love is steady, and His peace is available to you.
I encourage you to hold tight to Jesus. His love is more than enough to fill the emptiness, comfort you in your loneliness, and give you hope for better days ahead. Christmas is a time to remember that God is with you. Emmanuel means you are never alone.
Practical Ways to Feel His Love & Joy
If you need to feel Jesus’ love and joy this Christmas, here are a few practical ways you can experience them.
Sometimes the best way to feel His love is to give it away. That doesn’t make any sense to the mind, but the heart understands it. There is something incredibly special about loving others at this time of year.
1. Meet with someone who needs a friend.
Maybe someone around you also feels lonely or left out. Make a point this Christmas to reach out to them. Invite them to hang out, just to talk, or to join your Christmas celebration.
2. Help take care of people in need.
One powerful way to feel Jesus’ love is to serve others. There are so many people in need: those who are struggling financially, the elderly who are isolated, or people who are going through a hard time. Maybe there’s a soup kitchen you could volunteer at or a local shelter where you could lend a hand. Or maybe you could do something simple like carry someone’s groceries or shovel snow off their sidewalk.
3. Visit a children’s home.
One of my greatest joys is when my family is able to visit lonely children at Christmas. We try to bring joy and hope by spending time with the kids, giving gifts, and just showing them they’re not forgotten. This act of love fills our hearts with the joy only Jesus can bring. Maybe you could partner with a local orphanage or children’s home to bring a little extra joy to the children’s lives this Christmas.
4. Plan a fun way to serve together.
The joy of serving alongside friends or family is priceless, and it helps us feel God’s love in action.
Plan a gathering where you and your friends or family can work together to serve others. You could make care packages for the homeless, put together toy donations for children in need, or organize a Christmas party for those who don’t have anyone to celebrate with.
5. Give gifts to people in need.
Giving can be one of the best ways to experience the joy of Christmas! Look for a family or individual in need, and surprise them with a gift. It could be as simple as groceries, a warm coat, or toys for the kids. The act of wrapping a gift and imagining the smile on the other person’s face is a beautiful way to feel God’s love in your heart.
And who knows? You might just be the answer to someone’s prayer this Christmas!
6. Go to church and participate in outreach events.
What has your church planned for community outreach this year? Being an active part of the body of Christ will fill your heart with love and joy, whether you are singing carols for shut-ins, organizing a toy drive, or helping with a Christmas dinner for the less fortunate.
A Christmas Blessing
The more we give His love away, the more we experience it in our own heart. No matter what this Christmas holds for you, know you are deeply loved by the Father, and His love can transform every moment.
I’m praying that your Christmas will be filled with His joy and peace. May you feel the warmth of His presence as you draw closer to the One who loves you more than you can ever imagine.
