Praying God’s Word Back to Him
Nothing is more powerful than spending time with God. Not only does prayer help reset our heart in ways we desperately need, but it also shapes our life and the world around us. In fact, John Wesley said that “God does nothing but in answer to prayer.”
If that is the case…what is on your heart to pray?
How do you want to commune with God?
There are innumerable ways people can pray, but let’s focus on just one this week: praying Scripture. God said the words first, and then we pray those words back to Him.
Here are some sample prayers based on His Word.
He’s the God of Abundant Life
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10:10 NASB)
How would you pray John 10:10 in your own words?
Here’s one way you could do it:
Father, Your Word says You are not a thief. You are pouring Your abundant life on me. That is who You are. You have good plans for me, not plans to harm me (Jer. 29:11). Please help me rearrange my thinking until I think according to Your abundant life and not fear, loss, or pain. You are abundant life for me and my entire household.
He’s the God of Supply and Help
This same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:19 NLT)
How would you pray Philippians 4:19?
Here’s one idea:
Father God, Your riches are glorious. You are meeting all of my needs, not just one or two. Thank You in advance for supplying all my needs from Your tremendous storehouse. I have everything I need because of You. In fact, there is a surplus.
He’s the God of Love
May you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. (Eph. 3:18–19 NLT)
How would you pray Ephesians 3:18–19?
Here’s one option:
You are my Father and You are good! All Your love surrounds me—constantly. If there are any areas in my heart that doubt Your love, I ask that the light of Your love would shine there until all the shadows vanish. May my heart continually soften toward You until the knowledge of Your love is second nature to me.
This week as you pray God’s Word…
May you become more and more aware of God in you and all around you. May prayer—this precious communion with Him—become an ever-increasing part of your heart and mind.
