Start the Year Off Right

No doubt, all of us are familiar with the idea that God loves us. That is, we understand the concept in our heads. But do we really know it in our hearts?

Unfortunately, we’re often more familiar with the fear of rejection than we are with God’s incredible acceptance. He enjoys us so much and eagerly desires our company—but in most cases, we believe being His child is more complicated than that.

We believe things like, “I am not good enough for God.” Or “If I mess up, He will abandon me.”

But that is not what Scripture says—and we get to believe God’s Word more than what we might feel.

What Does the Bible Say?

You are loved by every piece of God’s heart: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God the Father wanted you so much that He sent Jesus to make sure you could be with Him.

For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16 AMP)

Because of Jesus, you get to sprint to God whenever you’re in trouble or need help:

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. (Heb. 4:16 NLT)

Some of us are afraid of the Holy Spirit because the Bible talks about not offending Him, but do you know what else the Bible says? That the Holy Spirit sets us free from fear and lets us know we are God’s beloved children:

The Spirit that we received is not a spirit that makes us slaves again to fear. The Spirit that we have makes us children of God. And with that Spirit we say, “Father, dear Father.” (Rom. 8:15 ICB)

That is who you really are! If those verses don’t seem real to you, take a deep breath and let the truth wash over your heart. The Bible is the Word of God. It is the truest description of who you are as His child, and it says you are so very loved.
