Life for Your Heart at Christmastime
What did God do for you this year?
Where have you seen His goodness?
All of us saw His goodness in 2024: the movements of His hand, the good things He did to help us, the answers to promises He made in the past, the tender ways He comforted us when we were hurting.
How is your life different today than it was at the beginning of the year?
How did your loving heavenly Father take care of you this year?
If you saw some big things happen, that’s amazing! Leave a comment below so the BTO community can celebrate with you!
But as great as the “big” things are, we shouldn’t overlook the small things—the simple, everyday things that all work together to show us a tapestry of the goodness of God.
Many of us are completely surrounded by His goodness and aren’t fully aware of it, because we have inadvertently trained ourselves to see only the big things. We can wind up frustrated when we don’t see those things as quickly as we expected.
Not only does it build our faith to be thankful for everyday blessings, but being thankful for the little things is so very good for our heart. It helps us see what is real—that God is with us and He is moving in our life.
The Connection Between Thankfulness & Holiness
Being thankful is a powerful act of worship that consecrates or makes holy the things we are thankful for:
For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. (1 Tim. 4:4–5 NIV)
The True Gift Giver of Christmas
All good things come from the Lord. He is the true Gift Giver of Christmas, and this is an awe and a wonder.
Every good gift bestowed, every perfect gift received comes to us from above, courtesy of the Father of lights. He is consistent. He won’t change His mind or play tricks in the shadows. (Jas. 1:17 VOICE)
He Makes All Things New
Finally, beloved child of God, if you are struggling with discouragement this month, may your heart find hope in knowing that God is in the business of restoration. He can take small things and make them big things—and He is just as good at taking hurting things and completely changing them, filling them with abundant life. He is always at work, and He desires to bless you.
