Trusting the Lord at Christmas
Christmas has a way of exposing our insecurities. We can find ourselves needing to trust the Lord more during the holidays.
“I can’t believe I’m still struggling with this.”
“I’m broke and need to buy gifts.”
“I’m afraid of what my family will say because I’m not dating anyone.”
But realizing we need to trust the Lord more isn’t a bad thing. Trusting the Lord isn’t necessarily easy, but it is always beautiful, and it is always an act of worship. Worship, in whatever form it comes in, is a precious gift to God that honors Him.
These verses are full of life at Christmastime:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding. (Prov. 3:5 NIV)
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:
“In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength.” (Isa. 30:15 NIV)
Proverbs 3:5 and Isaiah 30:15 go hand-in-hand. Proverbs 3:5 makes Isaiah 30:15 possible. A lot of stress and anxiety happen when we think we understand what’s going on, but we are actually looking at our life from a human perspective, not God’s perspective.
Real peace exists for you.
The peace of Jesus is possible for you.
But we experience His peace only when we’re relying on His understanding of the situation.
What is He saying this Christmas?
What does He want to do for us this Christmas?
When we choose to make Him our focus, the door to peace opens. Seeing our life from God’s perspective is the game changer we desperately need.
An Exercise in Peace
Think of one thing you’re concerned about right now. Here’s a simple way to pray about it:
Father, thank You for being with me.
Thank You for seeing this struggle and wanting to help me.
Please line my thoughts up with Yours. Teach me to think the way You think concerning this struggle. I want to see this thing from Your perspective.
Forgive me for listening to fear. I want to listen to Your voice instead.
Your voice is precious to me (Song 2:14).
I welcome the peace of Jesus into my thinking.
Thank You for Your goodness, which You’re pouring out on me for other people to see (Ps. 31:19).
Beloved child of God, you mean more to your heavenly Father than you know. You are so very loved! This Christmas, may you be able to trust His eyes—His perspective of your situation—and let Him turn your insecurities into worship.
